The Bourne Ultimatum (2007)
A surprisingly good action flick – more brains and less dumbness than the average one. It achieves this by focusing on the strengths of the series: minimising the gadgets and maximising the action and pace. In fact this is one of the most frenetic action movies you will ever see, moving seamlessly from fight to car chase to running through tense chase through the streets, only pausing long enough to let you catch your breath before hurtling into another sequence. For the action purists it also includes one of the best fight scenes I have ever seen between Bourne and the killer Desh – fast, inventive, and desperate. You really feel that it is a combat of two men locked in a struggle for life or death and that it could go either way – a rarity in today’s action movies. Damon once again impresses as Bourne: when his reflexes take over he is a killing machine, but when the action lets up for a moment his doubts and humanity surface.
