Nature Girl by Carl Hiaasen
Carl Hiaasen is funny. There is no doubt about that. He also clearly writes to a formula – but it’s a formula that I find both hilarious and reassuring. There are all the staple characters – the unbalanced eco-warrior, the lost soul, the crazed stalker, the innocent. All let loose in a threatened eco-system in Florida. Sometimes this grates, and sometimes, like this time, hilarity ensues. And finally I am reassured that some people in the USA are not mad, right wing gun nuts – that some people there do care about what is important, and that they can still teach us a thing or two. Keep it up Carl.
