Tim Harford live at the WRCC

Tim Harford, author of The Undercover Economist gave a talk at the Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce on Friday.  By the grace of Chilli Marketing I was able to score a ticket and go along. The first thing to note is that this was basically a book tour. Tim had come to promote his new book The Logic of Life. That meant that most of the speech was made up of talking about interesting snippets of the book. However, it must be said that he is a very accomplished speaker, very witty, very interesting and well worth seeing. He did a good job of tying parts of the book back to peoples’ lives – people just like those in his audience. After hearing his talk I definitely did want to go out and buy the book. I enjoyed The Undercover Economist as a great explanation of economics, and find the idea of a book that is about applying economics to everyday life issues (with evidence to back it up) irresistible. As an aside, one could get an idea of how important the WRCC thought the talk was by noting the relative time given – 35 minutes for Tim to talk, over an hour for people to network…
