Iron Man (2008)

I watched Iron Man the other night and it was all that one could hope it could be. It was not great art, it was not great cinema, but it was great fun and it was a great comic book movie. Robert Downey Jr was fantastic as Tony Stark/Iron Man. The action was frenetic – it didn’t pause long enough for you to spot the plot holes – and the special effects were stunning. The only jarring part was the uneven characterisation of Gwyneth Paltrow’s part: half the movie a strong woman, half the movie a weak screamer. If you like comics or superheroes this rates as one of the best adaptations from print to screen so far.
